Animal Farm: The Good and the Bad

Recently, I was required to read the book Animal Farm by George Orwell for English class. Overall, the book was great, but I had a few issues with it. My biggest problem was the harsh treatment of animals and the unfairness with which the animals treated each other, but those are a little obvious. So I'm going to get a little deeper into the story and tell you why I was so frustrated with my teachers' choice of book.

One of my issues was that the whole book was a metaphor. In the very long, boring introduction, it kinds of explains it, but not clearly enough for me to understand. According to the author, the book is a way of explaining the time where Stalin ruled, but I feel that animals are not a good way to explain communisim and other related topics, because animals would not be so foolish as to resort to such means of governing.

Another problem I had was the lack of detail. Some of the most dramatic or important scenes were missing the imagery that I value so much. The words that Orwell used were descriptive, but he most certainly did not elaborate enough for my taste.

Despite the problems I had with this book, it was a fantasic story, but if I had written it, I would have tried to do a better job, and possibly let in some humor. If you didn't know, humor is one of my favorite things in a book. Anyway, I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to know more about how selfish pigs are.
